Passing Half Guard BJJ
Today at RCW we’re passing the half guard. Often the opponent underneath has some told to make passing difficult.
We break down one possibility and touch on training against PERFECT moves. When drilling, coach your partner to do the best technique possible so you get used to what perfection feels like.
When you’re rolling, sparring in BJJ, you’ll develop a habit of rapidly identifying mistakes your opponent makes and how to take advantage of these opportunities.

You should know this secret weapon!

Today at RCW we’re breaking down one of the best self defense skills you can deploy. Bruce Lee called it “the queen of weapons,” referring to the queen on a chessboard. Enter the FINGER JAB! There’s a reason it’s illegal in sporting contests, we break it all down in today’s video. Thanks for watching!
Don’t let Sumbrada BOX in your Kali
Просмотров 16014 часов назад
Today we elaborate on the BOX pattern, a common partner drill in many Filipino Kali systems. Technically called Sumbrada, a reference to a Visayan term meaning “shade,” it should evolve into a highly dynamic drill that simulates the situations of live sparring. Many people get stuck on the initial 5 count flow and only develop the memorization of it. Here’s some tips to expand your vocabulary a...
Concepts for hitting the heavy bag
Просмотров 42614 дней назад
Today we’re covering a brief overview on how to hit the heavy bag effectively. Often when people start out they tend to “push” the bag. In striking, whether it’s MMA, Boxing, Muay Thai, or Jeet Kune Do, you want to to snap the punch. Relaxing just until the moment of impact. Aiming and intent with range has a function too. At River City Warriors we break it all down. Please like and subscribe a...

The Kali “gunting,” how to integrate limb destructions from weaponry into your striking.
Просмотров 33421 день назад
Today RCW is covering how to integrate the limb destruction of Kali into striking. Panatukan is the empty hand method if Kali and has had tremendous influence over boxing. Sometimes switching between arts requires subtle tweaks that can be hard to find without the right details. Thankfully our coaches take time to break these components down into the core principles. Whether you’re doing boxing...

In today’s Gracie Jiu Jitsu video we illustrate some effective ways you can take a classic BJJ technique and make it better. Often we are tempted to throw moves out or say they don’t work because of a lack of detail. Maybe we come across a partner or a competitor who can stop the technique from working. There’s always a fix and it’s one of the reasons that many of these submissions are hundreds...

JKD combinations from the 1960s!
Просмотров 294Месяц назад
Today we explain classic JKD combinations popularized by Bruce Lee in the 1960s. These are still highly relevant today. Remember when you do combination work the goal is to be able to bring out smaller sections in sparring. Such as kicking the leg and entering with the jab. It’s likely that you will not get off the entire combination, but drilling them will give you a more diverse arsenal when ...

@@user-gv4tp9wn3f tell it to Pedro Sauer and Rickson Gracie, it’s their material. 😂 In fact you can find this in Helio Gracie’s book on self defense.
Beast, didn't expect💪
@@DanteDeDecker thanks! 🙏🏻
Nice meat and potatoes breakdown . I use "cut" or "bounce" . I'm glad you adressed the height issue , I see even high ranking players doing work way above their heads . Best wishes from Seattle , Washington
Thanks for commenting, appreciate it!

Recently started self teaching JKD thanks and hope to see more!
@@GCJOTARO we’re working on it! Thanks for watching. This is direct curriculum from the Inosanto program. We’re on track to do 3 videos a week, one in JKD/striking, BJJ, and Kali. Channel has quite a few up though if you dig through the archives. 🤙🏻
I know people are going to hate on you doing this but I'd like to applaud you both for trying and learning. Gotta start somewhere.
The coach needs a coach
@@JimmyJohnson7077 I’ve been sparring and boxing for about 20 years. What do you think is incorrect about pushing the face to get a reaction? Have you ever watched fighters like Lennox Lewis, Bud Crawford, Tyson Fury, Buakaw, or Rodtang? Mixing up actual hitting with pushing is a great way to disrupt an opponent and the examples I listed all do it very well.
He dont know shit bruh 😅 @@RiverCityWarriorsPortland
@@RiverCityWarriorsPortland there's nothing wrong with measuring distance with the jab and using a blinding jab to set up your cross or any series of punches but not in the manner you did it because your perception of distance is totally off and your foot work is appalling, you'd get caught 90% of the time.
And not to mention you not keeping ya hands up
@@JimmyJohnson7077 oh why thank you, I secretly assumed we were in agreement. That’s exactly how it’s worked out for me in application. I’ll work on making sure my hands are up for instruction in the future, I’m 45, been doing more coaching than competing lately.
Hahahahaahahahahahahahahhahaahshahs

All you did was a whole bunch of nothing
@@jonteberglund7365 it’s 3 simple combinations. A downward figure 8, Pai-Pai (a short snapping inward but),and entry 3 which is commonly called “high low high.” The latter is a forehand slash and two back hand jabs. Watch our full video where we break it down if this was too fast for you to follow along.
I rather use my hands 😂
@@grumpypoephoofd that’s fun too, we’ve got a lot of love for boxing/kickboxing at RCW. Weaponry is great for building reflexes, hand eye coordination, and speed. Great attributes to bring over to other striking arts.

I don't want to do that though. Just looks like you're whacking at the punching bag randomly.

What’s in the box?! 😁Love the title, nice presentation.
Nice to see you back!
Thanks Zach!! Appreciate you 🤙🏻
Excellent 👏🏼
We know YOU can do it fast slow down for the rest of us
It seems to me that the dog brothers always go for“ Homerun swings“ initially, with a certain measure of success. I understand perfectly well you’re meaning on being conservative at first but you can also throw the so-called“ hail Mary“ shotIf you think you can get it off.
The first strike on the fouetté is used to block your opponents strike coming at you on the opposite angle once you’ve made contact successfully blocking with that first strike, then you complete the strike by coming around again on the same angle. That’s how I understand it and it works for the forehand and backhandEspecially if the target area is your opponents wrist/hand.
Welcome back … it’s been a minute! I remember your partner from when he wore a white belt … and now it’s purple. It’s to see that life goes on, for some.
Heya Joe! So good to see you are back!
Thanks, appreciate you motivating us and enjoying the content. Let me know if there’s anything you want us to cover.
How did you hook up the stick onto the chair so that it doesn’t come off
Just found your channel. Will have to spend some time exploring your videos. I love Kali, started back in the mid 80's and though I have moved from that alone I will always feel blessed I found Kali and its teachings shall remain no matter what art seems to be in the forefront of my training.
“That’s awesome “. … I agree
Thank you

If you could do it at least once slowly..... I'm sure many people would highly apreciate. 😉
